She Kept You Safe....Now It's Your Turn

Did you know that homeless women Veterans are the fastest growing homeless population in the United States?

Aura Home Women Vets is combating this issue by creating the Felicia Reeves Home for women Veterans facing homelessness. Located in Hendersonville, NC, this home will provide a safe haven where women can heal and regain stability.

We need your help to complete renovations!  Please help us provide housing for up to 12 women Veterans, their dependents and their pets at one time by making a donation today!

She deserves a home in the country she was willing to die for.

The Problem

In western North Carolina, the number of beds available to female versus male Veterans is extremely disproportionate with only 20 beds available to females and 244 beds available to male Veterans.  According to state statistics, 14% - or approximately 12,120 of NC women Veterans are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Homeless women Veterans are confronted with issues like:

  • Converting military job skills to be competitive in the employment market
  • Budget personal finances from change in pay and financial responsibilities
  • Developing new habits and connections to reintegrate into civilian life
  • Living without the structure and discipline provided by the military
  • Feeling like an outcast amongst people without military life or combat experience
  • Medical concerns like Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), loss of body parts; Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, Heart Disease, and cancers caused by their military service
  • Mental Health concerns like depression, Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) caused by MST or combat, and suicidal thoughts
  • ·Misinformation and bias when attempting to access resources available to veterans

Aura Home's Solution

Once open, the Felicia Reeves Home will provide private living and bathing quarters for up to 12 women and their children/dependents and pets.  One bedroom will be fully ADA compliant and separate living quarters will be provided for an on-site house manager. The house will provide meeting space where the women can share stories, an exercise room, and a private counseling room.  An on-site laundry will be shared amongst the women, as well as a large open kitchen where women will share meals and responsibilities for preparations/cleaning.  Once fully renovated, this facility will offer women Veterans a safe haven to connect, regain hope and begin a new path to self-sufficiency.

Friendly people. They understand the female Veteran's homeless situation. They give you safe shelter. You are made to feel like you matter, cause you really do. When I arrived, I was told welcome home, and I felt like I had arrived home, for the first time in a long time. I am forever grateful!!   E.G.
